one silver lining of me placed in jeramville is that it makes me humble and really grateful with what i have in my life .. cos what i have is excessive eventho i'm still in selangor maju 2007.
i still have ..
- a roof above my head (eventho rented)
- a car to move about (eventho malaysian made)
- money to indulge my kids (eventho not much)
- a cupboard full of clothes not to mention my shoes
- abundance of any food i feel like eating
cos there are students of mine who:
- do not have pocket money to spend or they wont have a bus ride home
- do not have money to spare for revision books
- eats once a day cos they cant afford the canteen offerings
- have not ventured further than klang to see the outside world
- have no access to computers cos parents cant afford one
it may sound unbelievable but i feel so sad for them when i know my kids get so much .. their toys and books and clothes exceed their needs yet i buy more and more .. and when i hear stories of how poor these students are, i just hate myself cos i never WANT enough .. there always things i want that i actually dont need .. these poor kids put a brave face on everyday and go to seek education hoping it would change their lives and get them out of their hardship .. i should be giving something instead ..
sometimes i wish and dream of so many material things i dont have when the basic needs of my students arent reaching them .. and this is malaysia .. not a third world country and we are not that rural here ..
i really should stop looking up and thinking i want more when i should look down and be thankful for what i have ..
it'll stop my complaints and start my syukr ..
but what we lack in wealth, we are abundant in love .. and for that i am grateful ..
